Ynys Môn MP joins volunteers distributing covid tests in Holyhead
Ynys Môn MP Virginia Crosbie has joined volunteers in Holyhead today helping to hand out and collect Covid test kits following a flare-up of the virus in the town.
Operation Eagle is in action as infection rates remain high and volunteers from as far afield as Llangollen and Wrexham have joined the effort.
Earlier this week, there were 466.5 cases per 100,000 people in Holyhead compared to the Welsh average of 42.
Virginia said many homes in Holyhead will have received test kits through Operation Eagle but there are other ways to get tested too.
Those with no symptoms can get tested at Holyhead Leisure Centre. Anyone with symptoms can book a test in the Chippy Chippy car park.
“Health authorities and the council are doing everything to get this spike in infections under control and I felt it was important to do my bit today to help along with all those brilliant volunteers who are doing a fantastic job,” said Virginia.
“I would like to thank the residents of Holyhead who are playing their part to get this spike under control. It is a serious situation; it is being tackled but we need the help of the community.
“Many thanks should also go Anglesey Council, Medrwn Môn, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, the volunteers and all the other agencies involved."
