OVER 25.2 MILLION
people have received a vaccine so far across the United Kingdom
Our vaccination programme has so far been an extraordinary success – with over 25.2 million people across the UK now having received their first dose, helping to cut infection rates and reduce the spread of the virus.
• We have administered over 27 million vaccines across the UK. We are averaging almost 2.7 million doses a week, and almost half of the adult population across the country have now received their first dose.
• 95 per cent of people aged 65 and over have been vaccinated with their first dose. 9 in 10 of those clinically extremely vulnerable have also received their first jab.
• We are now inviting all people aged 50 and over for their COVID jab. We will also continue to do all it takes to reach those in the most vulnerable groups who haven’t come forward yet.
• The latest data is clear - vaccines save lives.
o At the beginning of March, around 90 per cent of people aged 70 and over had coronavirus antibodies – and it has continued to expand further in the two weeks since then.
o Both the Oxford and Pfizer vaccines reduce the likelihood of serious illness by 60 per cent after the first dose.
o The latest data shows that protection against hospitalisation is around 80 per cent and protection against death is around 85 per cent.
o The data also shows that if you live with someone who’s been vaccinated, you have a 30 per cent lower risk of catching COVID-19 yourself.
• We have secured early access to 457 million doses of eight of the world’s most promising vaccines so far. The UK was the first country in the world to procure, authorise and then deploy both the Oxford and Pfizer vaccines. To date, we have invested over £300 million into manufacturing a successful vaccine, with facilities across the UK working at pace to supply the biggest vaccination programme in NHS history.
• Vaccination figures are now available for the number of people vaccinated in each constituency.
